April issue . 2009,
Hello and welcome to the market talk for the beginning of spring 2009. We have just returned home from the
Baltimore coin and currency show. I'll tell you it was very busy, the aisles where full with collectors of all sorts. We had a great show, actually the best show we've had in a while. Wholesale and retail sales came upon our table throughout the whole show. Plenty of curiosity for viewers at all times came looking through the glass cases gazing upon treasures of all sorts.Looking for St. Gaudens double eagles in MS64-66 was near impossible as I only found 2 MS64's (that were CAC sticker or non sticker) so I bought one of the two. As for MS65's there were none, and MS66's I found only one and it was a 1908 no motto “wells
Fargo” NGC with a lot of flash. Where have all the MS64 and higher Saints gone to? Well, they are disappearing because of gold spot prices staying high being the best place to put your capital into and telemarketers selling them all for high prices. All CAC sticker coins where just as scarce. There was only a hand few of nice eye appealing coins with a “sticker” by CAC and that is because they are all being bought up putting a “premium” on such coins with the privilege of having the label bestowed upon them.It seems people are just not buying as many coins as freely as in the past. Investors are still out there buying very nice coins though, and they are smart if you ask me because it seems the best place to put your money into are rare eye appealing coins. The next big show we are attending will be the Central States show in Cincinnati, OH and we expect a big turnout because the “interest” of coins seems to be on the rise once again. For sure we've had a slow and scary past half a year or more, but coins speak for themselves and my confidence is firm when putting your hard earned capital into the coin market.
(Upcoming Shows Link) If there are any last minute “wants” please let us know. Also if there are any coins in the Stacks auction let us know and we will view and bid for you on only 5% commission. Keep an eye for the “market insight” after the show for an in depth write up on how the market is doing and where it’s going.
Our very best to you, Dave Albanese coinace@aol.com
